Budget Linux Audio Studio Project

General - Pricing

Over the last 24 hours I've priced out several things. This will give me motivation to get my butt moving because a lot of these things are on sale.

Computer :

  • Tyan tiger S2466 Motherboard - $184
  • Athlon MP2400+ (2x) - $278
  • 200 GB Firewire HDD (Audio storage/recording)- $149
  • Matrox G450 DUAL HEAD Graphics Card - $49
  • PC2100 DDR 1GB Ram (2x) - $154
  • 22 inch Monitor - $263
  • Case / Fan - ~$120
  • Hammerfall Multiface + HDSP PCI Card - ~$1100

Mics/Recording Equipment

  • MXL 990/991 Prcording Mic PKG - $99
  • SHURE PG 6-piece Drum Mic Pkg - $399
  • KSM27 Studio Mic (Vocals/Acoustic) - $299
  • SHURE SM57 - $89
  • Cables, Stands and Clips - $300
  • Bheringer EuroDesk MX2442A - $379
  • Bheringer Monitors - $339
  • QH560 Deluxe Studio Headphones (4x) - $98)

Garage "conversion"

  • Structure and drywall - $400
  • Soundproofing/acoustic treatment (also in control room) - $600

Under this budget, there's still another $250 left in the BLASP fund for cushion/Tax/extra building materials/etc. If there's any left, we'll get a webcam and throw it down in the isolation room.

The first thing that has to happen is setting up Tim's college fund (of some sort) so that I can start buying some of this stuff while it's still on sale.

The next step is to get it okayed with the HOA (no garage conversions are allowed, but we're not converting it to a living area, just using it for a recording space.

  • What's the total price of your project so far ? Has it been completed ... wow DAW on Linux .. hemmm that's not common.

Anyway I'm a small timer in terms for DAW I have one running on a Celeron 466. Very primitive but works for the things I'm doing ... Good to read the development of your studio...

    Keep it up
